Youth Games Week 2026
15 June 2026

On Monday morning, ten Year 3 children visited Stanley Park Tennis Courts to develop their tennis skills through a variety of fun challenges. During the event, Aria Austin was awarded the School Games Value Award for Self-Belief in recognition of her perseverance and determination throughout the session.
In the afternoon, we returned to Stanley Park for the Football Festival. This fantastic event gave ten Key Stage 2 children, many of whom had little previous experience of football, the opportunity to learn new skills, play games and build their confidence in a fun and supportive environment. Shahwaiz was presented with the Passion Award for his outstanding effort and consistently positive attitude.
On Tuesday morning, ten Year 5 children visited Tee Time Golf Centre, where they completed 12 exciting activity stations designed to develop their putting and driving skills. The team achieved a fantastic score, but unfortunately just missed out on the top prize of a trip to The Open. Josef's determination and resilience were recognised with a School Games Value Award.
In the afternoon, twelve Year 6 pupils enjoyed the ever-popular Aqua Splash event at Palatine. The children took part in exciting relay races using a variety of equipment, including surfboards, while demonstrating excellent teamwork and sportsmanship throughout. Tobi was deservedly awarded the Teamwork Award for his encouragement and support of others.
Our first competitive event took place on Wednesday morning, when 12 pupils represented St Nicholas in a range of athletics events. Every child performed brilliantly and, after an outstanding team effort, we finished level on points in first place. Unfortunately, another school secured one additional first-place finish, meaning we were narrowly placed second overall—a fantastic achievement of which we are incredibly proud.
On Wednesday afternoon, six lucky Year 6 pupils visited Blackpool Sixth Form, where they learnt a dance routine and sign language to a K-Pop medley before performing their routine on stage. It was a wonderful opportunity that the children thoroughly enjoyed.
A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who brought their children to Stanley Park on Wednesday evening for the Road Races. We were incredibly proud of every runner who represented our school. A special mention goes to Mabel, who showed remarkable determination by getting back up after a nasty fall to finish in an impressive 5th place. Congratulations also to Rosie, Louie, Cindy and Jessie L, who each achieved an outstanding 2nd-place finish in their respective races.
On the final day of the Games, we returned to Stanley Park for the Commonwealth Games Festival, where 10 lucky children experienced a wide range of sports, including archery, judo, gymnastics, curling and wheelchair basketball. Nixon was awarded the Self-Belief Award for his confidence and determination throughout the day.
Our final event of the week was the Key Stage 1 Multi-Skills Festival—an afternoon full of fun, energy and smiles. The children embraced every challenge with enthusiasm, and John was presented with the final School Games Value Award for Respect.
We are incredibly proud of every child who represented St Nicholas throughout the week. Their behaviour, effort and sportsmanship were exceptional, and they were fantastic ambassadors for our school. Well done to everyone who took part.
